How you might feel on Spring festival?
Spring festival is the most important traditional Chinese festival. It is also significant to Chinese overseas students. Generally speaking, Lunar New Year comes after Christmas holiday. Therefore, I have to say you will no break for celebrating Chinese New year. If you are lucky enough, you may have no class on that day. I am not the lucky person, I spend the Lunar new year 00:00 (China time) on the lecture this year. 🙁
If you will have a class on that day, well, like me. When you back to your room after class, you will become much more emotional. You will double miss your homeland and family on that moment, even the CCTV Spring festival gala will make you cry. I have spent two year’s of spring festivals in the UK, so I know how do you feel, it is hard and sad without the company of families…

Some of the UK Universities’ student union will hold spring festival gala for Chinese student. Hundreds of Chinese partners will be there to celebrate our festivals together! Just go out of your room, forget your sad mood, have fun and harvest friendships in the student union!
# Reunion Dinner
Reunion dinner can not absent at the day of Lunar New Year, and it is also a good day of having a party! Call your friends to your home, go to the Chinese Supermarket, buy some materials, then make dumplings together!
Turn on the CCTV Spring Festival Gala in a loop as the background music, talking everything with your friends over the dinner until the mid night. Then count backwards together: Three, Two, One, Happy New Year~! What a wonderful memories~
# Face-time with your families!
If having a tasty meal and staying with your friends can not heal your homesick. Then you need to face-time your families, join in their atmosphere, let your families to heal you. I still remember 2018 Spring Festival, the year I came in the UK, I spent nearly an hour on video with my relatives. I don’t know why, even if just watching them having dinner, I felt I was home.
# Go to sleep!
International student may also feel lonely on other traditional Chinese festivals. For example, mid-autumn festival and lantern festival. The mentioned tips can use every time when you feel lonely. If all the tips can not heal your bad mood, please go to sleep, it is a simply but effective way to forget bad emotions!
By the way, tutors understand how we feel, they usually use their own ways to send kind holiday greetings to all the Chinese students, which is so warm~ 🙂
